These Amazing Thrift Shop Finds Made Their Owners Rich
8. Diamond In the Rough
On April 28th, 2012, this painting by Ilya Bolotowsky, one of the giants of abstract art, attracted little attention at a North Carolina church’s yard sale. The painting was dropped off at a nearby Goodwill, along with the rest of the rejected items, where it was picked up later that day by a local painter. The painter, Beth Feedback, had come in looking for a blanket on a cold day, and instead found this amazing piece. Which she intended to repurpose as a canvas for one of her paintings of zany cat faces.
The painting was saved from its terrible fate by one of Feedback’s friends, who suggested she research the artist’s name. The painting, titled Vertical Diamond, was later auctioned for $34,375. Meow.
